Hé is a unique and versatile stool that draws inspiration from the Twin cup used by the indigenous tribe in Taiwan. This cup is a symbol of fellowship and togetherness, and the Hé stool aims to promote the same sense of unity and connection among people.
The design of Hé revolves around two inter-connecting stools that allow two individuals to sit comfortably close to each other. This proximity fosters a stronger bond and enhances the sense of togetherness during gatherings and events. When not in use, the stools seamlessly slide together, saving space and creating a single stool that beautifully blends two different materials.
The choice of materials used in Hé represents the coming together of the Hans Chinese and Indigenous cultures in Taiwan. The stool is made of wood, such as Ash, Oak, or Pine, and the profiles of each layer are shaped using CNC technology. This combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern production techniques results in a visually stunning and functional piece of furniture.
The dimensions of Hé are 450W x 350D x 500H when closed and 800W x 350D x 500H when open. Its compact size makes it ideal for small living environments, where space optimization is crucial.
Lee Teng Sheng Jason embarked on a 10-day ethnographic product design research trip in Taiwan in September 2014 to understand the culture and values of the Hans Chinese and Indigenous people. This research formed the foundation for the design of Hé, which aims to bridge the gap between different cultures and create a piece of furniture that solves a modern problem in society.
Hé has received recognition for its innovative design and functionality. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2017. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, technical skill, and contribute to improving the quality of life.
With its unique concept, elegant design, and focus on promoting fellowship and togetherness, Hé is not just a stool but a symbol of unity and connection.
